Antilles Installment

Here is another installment from the Jade Walker files.

Below is an Antilles pinktoe tarantula - Avicularia versicolor. These beauties get to be about 4" across and are fairly docile. They are also one of the most desirable ones in the hobby due to their coloration.

The bottom photo is of a baby Antilles. I'll admit that for the first time, due to the colors, I considered getting a tarantula for a pet. But then I remembered that it is a spider and that I'm arachnophobic. That's a deal breaker.

But if any of you are interested, Jade does sell these...

Thanks for the photos, Jade.

What exciting colors! It reminds me of the little Easter chick decorations that were made out of chenille (pipe cleaner material) and sold when I was a kid!

My personal favorite tarantula.

The top one was one of my first spiders ever. He was the first one I successfully bred, too. The baby, in the second photo is one of his daughters, whom I still have :)

Oh, and Wombat- Getting a pet tarantula is the BEST way to get over arachnaphobia. That's how I did it, and look at me now! :)

Fun bit of information: The website you link to for info in versicolors lists their family as Theraphosidae. That's not true. The genus Avicularia is the only genus of tarantulas grouped into a different family, which is named Avicularinae.

Just thought you'd like to know :)

I like the color, but I am utterly terrified at the thought of a fuzzy colorful spider. It's so wrong in my mind, if I saw one sitting in front of me, I woulnd't even have the guts to chase it away. There would only be screaming.

These little guys should be posted on Cute Overload, not here! ;-)

I sent them to cute overload, along with my original baby pinktoe pictures, posted here. They turned me down and said spiders can't be cute. They can blow me :P

You'll always find a home for them here.

Cute Overload is arachnophobic and bigoted.

Okay - I am SO going to write in over at C.O. I'm so disappointed with them. I give them props everytime they even post something cold-blooded. That Meg wrote you back saying that spiders CAN'T be cute is just... ARGH. ;)

That is one gorgeous spider Jade and the behbeh is UBER CUTE! I never tire of seeing your multi-legged tenants.

Wretched things! Glow in the dark or not, there is no way I could handle having one even in a gymnasium with me.

anonymous- Hate to tell you, but you're never more than about 10 feet from a spider anywhere. If you think that's bad, you should see how common roaches are!
