The ugliness of this baby macaw is offset only by its helplessness. We'll let you slide by this time, little bird, but grow some feathers fast.

Okay, I understand how baby humans and actually most mammals survive the time intensive and exhausting phase of babyhood, mostly because they are insanely cute. (Especially some baby girls I know) But can you explain to me how birds like this survive?
