Bayou at Dusk

What a nice, tranquil bayou setting. Can't you just hear the twitter of birds in the evening and the lulling buzz of the cicadas? Ahh.

But don't let your guard down. Every one of those pinpoints of light belongs to an alligator. And they're looking at you.

Thanks for the photo, Theodosia.

At first I thought those lights were fireflies, but gator eyes? That makes this scene beautiful and scary at the same time.

That's just a wee bit terrifying.
And yes, I thought they were fireflies as well - changed my mind about wanting to go catch them, now, though.

'Chatoyant' is the French term for glowing like cats' eyes. I didn't know alligators were chatoyant, but now I do. :-)

Eek! I also though the glowing was a firefly (or the imatation firefly that lures in the real ones and eats them), but too see THAT many gator eyes in one place... that's creepy! Stop being such creepy lurkers, you gators!

Heads up: familiar photo over at cute overload today. First ugly-cute cross post ever?

I saw the familiar mantis picture too. There have been cute-ugly overload crossovers before, but to my recollection this is the first crossover where the photo was on Ugly Overload first. It was quite a surprise.

No way! Seriously, all of those glowing things are gators??? I can't believe there are that many in such a small area!
