Leonberger Part 2

I hesitate to post these photos, because I don't think this dog is ugly in the slightest. But a lot of you seemed to enjoy my last post on Clifford the Leonberger, so here's a follow up.

As you can see, this pooch is a dominant player in Douglas's household. And he enjoys video games as much as the wife and kids. The Leonberger now weighs in at 178 lbs of pure muscle. Combine that weight with its leonine coat, and no wonder he is impervious the the Swedish cold.

Thanks for the photos, Douglas.

Are you sure he's not a pony?

No, I agree, not really "ugly" so much as "goofy" -- they look like they were created from spare parts.

It makes me happy to see such an obviously loved and clearly HAPPY doggie. He's gorgeous in a... run-over pelt sort of way. :D

I had commented on the last Leonberger pic that my mom has 4 of these dogs. Here is one of them: http://serengeti4leos.tripod.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/14months.jpg

They named him Bison because he is "huge like buffalo". Sweetest and biggest lap-dog ever!

Wow, he's a bit creepy-looking. I keep thinking of a person in a dog suit or the illustrations that put human faces on animal heads. I'll stick with Great Danes as my big dog of choice.

Yeah, he still looks like one of those mythical, cryptic dogs the existence of which hasn't been proven yet.

Meant to say "cryptid," but "cryptic" is a nice word, too.

Cliffy reminds me a bit of Chewbacca, too. Or maybe the Abominable Bigfooted SomethingOrOther. I like how the family makes PLENTY of room on the couch for him. Can you imagine how much heat this guy must generate? Very handy to have around the house!

A household with 4 of these guys would def. be a home full of FLOOFY, drippy LOVE. ;) I know someone who had 5 Newfoundland dogs which I think would be similar.

Lot's o' love but always a lingering smell of wet-dog. ;) I loved it.

I'm in love with this dog!!! So cute!!!

Ha ha..."floopy, drippy love" is exactly what it is every time I see my parents' dogs! Funny thing is, they do not have doggie odors. I'm not sure about Newfies, but Leos don't smell--even when wet. My mother is always vacuuming up the hair though. I have a basset hound (always smells and sheds) and a french bulldog (no odor, no shedding. I love both, but I'll stick to frenchies from now on :) What's really funny is my frenchie is 18 lbs and has no problem bossing my mom's 130 lb Leos around.

Clifford, you are so cool! Are you named after Clifford, the big red dog?

Leos look like wookies and they even make sounds like wookies. And yes, leos are great lap dogs. I should know, I'm a big, beautiful female leonberger by the name of Aina!

I just saw this breed on animal planet. I grew up with a St. Bernard and in college, my folks got 2 Pyrenees. I learned this breed was derived from those. The temperment of the Pyrs were incredible and I've read the Leo is as well. Thinking hard about this breed for our family.
