Ant Raft

This one comes to us from Moneca. Ants really are amazing creatures, as seen here when they form a life raft to float their colony to a new spot. I can't imagine what it would be like to go for a swim in the ol' watering hole, only to come up for air in the middle of this. I don't think it'd go well for you.

While canoeing with my sister once on the Lampasas River in Texas, she spotted one of these rafts and managed to fling the greater part of it on me with her paddle. Needless to say, I managed to capsize the canoe. Not fun. Not fun at all.

At least you capsized the canoe. Anything less would have been disappointing.

I do hope your sister apologized afterwards. Profusely.

I haven't come up into one of these rafts, but I have had 'em land on me before. Nothing spoils a great swim like picking a bunch of angry, stinging ants out of your bathing suit. *shudder*

Apologize? My sister? Nope. She claimed to have thought it was a bunch of dead leaves that she flung at me - all in good fun, you know.

My dad didn't quite buy that, given that he had pointed out several other floating masses of fire ants just minutes before my sister launched her living chemical bomb at me.

Maybe it is best to never mention the incident again (looks around nervously for lurking sister wielding a paddle.)
