Proud Cat Owners

I normally make it a point not to post on deformed animals. However, the two kitties below are beloved pets, and it was their owners who shared the photos with me, so enjoy.

First, meet Sticky, owned by Pol. This feline with born with a hare lip. Above is him as an adult, with his tongue proudly highlighting his uniqueness. Below is him as a kitten. The close-up of his nose gives you some insight as to what a hairlip is.

And last we have Sebastian. Ricardo found him already blind in both eyes - he was apparently born that way. When Ricardo first laid eyes on him, Sebastien was trying to scavenge food from his trash bin. Ricardo took him to the vet, who determined that the right eye was permanently blind, while the left eye could regain some vision.

You'll be happy to know that after two surgeries and five months, Sebastian can now see out of his left eye, even if only in blurs and shadows.

I've got to hand it to you, Pol and Ricardo. Your cats won't win any beauty competitions, and you're just fine with that. I respect you for being such good, and proud, pet owners. The world needs more people like you.

  1. They both look quite lovely to me! They're sleek, they're well-fed, they're thriving, and they're as content as a cat could be. How nice to know that some cat owners are willing to look beyond a facial deformity, and see the beautiful pet instead.

  2. I saw a bumper sticker today: Resist Despair. Between keeping that in mind (my new mantra) and seeing that good people like Pol and Ricardo know good cats when they see them, I'm having a pretty good day.

  4. I've seen cats that were completely blind that had great lives. Good for these happy cat-gardians!

Amen. Sebastian probably wouldn't have lasted long on his own as a blind dumpster diver.

Umm, the lip issue will make even more sense if you spell it right, "hare lip"--and then look at a rabbit with its split upper lip...
But your thoughts about these kittehs are perfect! Resist despair.

  8. Yay to Pol and Ricardo ! It always warm my possibly-needing-a-bypass- in-the-next-ten-years heart when people go out of their way to take care of animals no other people want.

It's always nice to have that perfect, healthy pet but it's always nicer to give a home to those which would struggle to find one.

Hey, pass this message along to Pol and Ricardo, okay ? They are really wonderful people.

  9. Way to go! We have a hare lip kitty named Joaquin. He was unable to nurse from his mother, so we bottle fed him and he made it! It was a tough road for him and he stayed half the size of his brothers and sisters, but is doing great! He is like my son... the most cuddly little guy ever, to him...we were his parents & he definitely treats us as so! He is over a year old now & healthy and happy. He has his own facebook site we just made out of boredome the other day - : http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/profile.php?id=100001984747124
