Ugly Dog and Smug Pig

This duo was put on display at a shopping mall in Hong Kong to celebrate the upcoming change of the year from the Year of the Dog to the Year of the Pig.

One might think that this sharpei's expression stems from his jealousy that the pig will now be in the limelight. But I think it comes more from the shock that, possibly for the first time ever, the change from Dog to Pig will result in a better looking animal. What is this world coming to?

The piglet looks a bit smug, too.

Where is the ugly? Certainly not on this picture.

Ugly.. yes where is it? The sharpei is past its best, that's for sure. He's going a bit bold and stuff. I would look grumpy if I was bold!

And the pig really does look smug! But the sharpei is still kinda cute, bald or not.

The piglet is probably smug-looking because it knows it is less likely to get eaten...

shar-peis usually look like that. Their wrinkles must be annoying to clean. They were originally used for fighting dogs (hence the name chinese fighting dogs).

(BTW... found ya from Meg's recent interview on The Petcast. Good job posting the "uglies"! :)
