If you check out the comments on our previous post about this fish, one commentor says that the strange name is explained by the fact that "sarcastic" is derived from a word that means "the tearing of flesh." I don't know if that is true, but as a story it is definitely what we call in the news business "too good to fact-check," so I'm going to leave it at that.

That is so awesome! It reminds me of the alien from Predator.
Sometimes I wish we'd find life on other planets because I want to see alien animals. But damn, it's easy to forget how many alien animals live right on this one.
I haven't yet found an alien appendage or behavior in science fiction that isn't already happening somewhere on earth - usually with invertebrates in the ocean.
