Be Thankful

I thought we could all use a medley of primate rears today, as an exercise in gratitude. You are most likely sitting down as you peruse this post, so take a moment and be thankful that your rear isn't as swollen and engorged as these (well, hopefully). It's gotta be painful right? The baboon in the second shot looks like she's letting it dangle instead of trying to sit on top of it.

From the looks of that last photo, the big red booty gives young ones something of a fleshy saddle to straddle. Makes riding on mommy's back a bit more comfortable. And look at their intertwined tails. How precious is that?

We saw a bunch of similar monkeys at the zoo this past March. I still have nightmares about their rears. It's quite disturbing, truth be told.

I read that the females' rears become more swollen and pink when they're ready to mate. That's apparently how the males tell. Have you watched of "Escape to Chimp Eden"? :)

Well, I have to admit that last photo is precious. Of course, it's precious by comparison to the ones preceding it. :-D

Why pity them? As Kimberly said above, the swollen butt means they're read to mate - means, to male baboons, they're drop-dead gorgeous, hot and irresistible.

These ladies are going to get lucky tonight. Are you? ;)

Ouch! How much would that stink that when you are ready to mate, you can't even sit down? That doesn't allow for dinner and a movie before hand!!
