Check Your Boots

When backpacking I've learned always to check my boots before putting them on in the morning. But I realized just now that I've become complacent about inspecting my shoes when I'm home. Who's to say that a spider didn't take residence in them on any given night? My property is riddled with black widows, after all.

I need to be more vigilant. I'm talking Mad-Eye Moody vigilant.

  2. Thanks, Robin. It's been too long since my last reading of Potter.

I was going to say constant vigilance but I see anonymous has beaten me to it!

  7. Your foot would probably smoosh it before it was a threat anyway right? ;-)

  8. That's what I tell myself every time I put on my shoes, saskboy. Even if it isn't true.

  9. When we moved to our current house, we used to get crickets in our shoes enough that we started calling them "shoe crickets."

    It went like this:
Walk to fully enclosed front porch to head outside first thing in the morning, sleepily slip on shoes.

    Feel wriggling next to foot.

    Jump entirely out of shoes.

Reach down and dump both shoes (for good measure) frantically and thoroughly.

Watch perfectly healthy cricket scuttle off elsewhere.

...so yeah, the "squooshed by your feet" theory? Not so much.
