2008 World's Ugliest Dog Contest

It's that time of year again. Time for the world famous World's Ugliest Dog Contest at the Sonoma-Marin Fair.

This fair has brought you the likes of Sam and Ellwood. This year brings you a whole new batch of ugly pooches. Here are just a few (picked at random). Be sure to vote!

    Just for fun: 11/17 (64.7%) of them are Chinese crested dogs. Hmm.

    A friend of mine adopted a HAIRY Chinese Crested dog -- the hairlessness is a recessive, so you get an alternative version reminiscent of a flossy poodle. They're called Powderpuffs. Unfortunately, the gene for hairlessness has bad effects on teeth, so you see more than a fair share of Chinese Cresteds in the ugly category.

    I know this comment probably doesn't belong here... but it just seems sad to continue to breed dogs who tend to lack teeth. Don't their tounges get dried out and sore from lolling out all the time? : ( Anyway, they are definaetly ugly and I KNOW they are loved and spoiled by their families... but, well, anyway... Perhaps someone should start making dentures for Chinese Cresteds?

    HI MR. GROVIE HERE. I JUST WOULD LIKE TO SAY, "NO I AM NOT DEPRESSED, BUT QUITE THE OPPOSITE. I AM A LITTLE CLOWN AND AM QUITE ENTERTAINING.I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO STRUTTING MY STUFF ACROSS THE STAGE IN PETALUMA ON JUNE 20!!! I REALIZE MANY OF YOU THINK I AM NOT THE LEAST BIT UGLY. WELL I AGREE, I AM A PUG AND WE OOZE CUTENESS JUST FOR LOOKING AND BEHAVING LIKE WE DO.
    BUT I DON'T FIND THOSE OTHER CONTESTANTS UGLY AND UNATTRACTIVE EITHER.
    THERE IS A FINE LINE BETWEEN THEIR TYPE OF UNIQUE FEATURES AND ADORABLE. OUR HUMAN'S LOVE US NO MATTER WHAT. WE ARE WONDERFUL COMPANIONS. I REALIZE MANY OF THE CHINESE CRESTED DOGS ARE RESCUED. I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO HAVE BEEN THE PICK OF THE LITTER AS A BUNDLE OF "EWOK" LOOKING FUR. I WILL BE A CONTRAST TO THOSE HAIRLESS,TOOTHLESS, SAGGING TONGUE
    CRESTED PUPS. WE WILL ALL JOIN THE STAGE TO SHARE OUR DIFFERENCES AND PROVIDE A FUN TIME FOR ALL THOSE WHO CARE TO JOIN US.
