Oh, Lordy Loo NO. I lived in DC/Maryland last year (West Coaster by birth) and these things are disgusting. Loud, stupid, messy, bumbling, clingy, shitting. They fly and land like they're drunk. No, I prefer the sanitized version, thanks.
I fully expect someone to turn this into a moving Gravatar any minute now...
This brings back memories of a massive emergence that happened in St. Louis, right as I was on a two-week visit to my Grandma's. We went to visit friends of my Dad's, and the trees in Festus were layered three-deep in molting cicadas and shed skins. And good grief, the NOISE!
I agree, kyrraven -- the green wings are beautiful. It seems that that's the green you only see for a day when the mesquite trees here in southern AZ finally "leaf out."
Yes! I want in in 3D!
ReplyDeleteThat's easy, booge. Just find yourself a cicada larvae that's about to molt. 3D and live.
ReplyDeleteThe wings are a lovely green. It looks so weird as it bursts out of it's old skin... time lapse photography is neat!
