For some reason this whole story of giant squids washing up on the California coast line is freaking me out. I've seen enough movies to know that things floating up from the deep or falling from the sky are rarely harbingers of good tidings. In fact, I can only assume that we will look back on the appearance of the squids as the first sign of The Alien Invasion.

You're right. This is very, very bad.
ReplyDeleteIs this a 'bring your own squid' party?
ReplyDeleteYay, Humboldt squid (I think)! They're supposed to be quite dangerous to divers. Luckily they mostly live in the open ocean.
ReplyDeleteYup! Those are Humbolts. They are really only dangerous in fishing situations where they are agitated and fishermen fall in with them and... we'll they do have spikes on their tenticles, as well as a sharp, nasty beak. ;)
ReplyDeleteThey are a very cool squid but it is a bit worrisome that they are changing their distribution so much right now. They tend to live in further south, like in the sea of Cortez. They are movoing North though and people are worried it's a sign that something serious is happening.
I visited Monterrey CA about 25 years ago. There were sea lions all over the harbor. I just went again last month, and there were much fewer. The locals say they are moving north because the water is getting warmer.
ReplyDeletei, for one, would like to welcome our new squid overlords.
ReplyDeleteOne day, we humans may understand how 'out of depth' we were when we tried to understand the lives of our aquatic brothers and sisters.
ReplyDeleteNotice that these are all men holding these large... squids. It looks like some sort of cultish fertility ritual.
ReplyDeleteGood one, bluejack! It's all so...phallic.
ReplyDeleteLOL
