Bats sent in this video. It's of a jumping spider mating ritual. My favorite part is how indifferent the female appears to be in the face of the male's gesticulating and clicking. I know how the male feels.
I know if a guy came up to me doing that, I'd pee myself from terror Yikes! It's those salutes, or whatever they are -- so intense! I'll bet he's a control-freak!
OK, it was kind of cute at first; the male looked like he was doing a little tapdance. I was kind of unnerved by the clicking/saluting thing, but I didn't really wig until he started that groaning noise. Who knew spiders could moan? Also, was this amplified, or are they really that loud? I can just imagine hanging out at home one muggy summer night and hearing this "NNNnnngh!" noise from under the couch. Eeesh.
I *HEART* this video. Jumping spiders never cease to amaze me. I need to see more about this study. Does the femail have something glued to her forehead?
Yep, I thought so... on further reading it turns out that the female is both restrained and unconsious. She's not snubbing him on purpose. ;) They likely don't want to loose a good percentage of their test subjects to canabalism. lol
My word! If a tarantula did that to me, I would SO be running for my life. I can't believe the little guy actually popped his 'tennas eight times consecutively!
WOW!!! A nazi salute!!!
