I shouldn't ask this, because I don't really want to know, but what's with flies and bubbles of goo hanging off their mouths? Is it really digestive juice that's meant to be splattered on my face? I have no doubt that he's menacing me.

Yes, it is digestive juice. Flies barf on their food before they eat it. Easier to slurp up when liquified.
I've been taught that this is true, though I seem unable to find any web-based evidence to back this up at the moment.
On the up-side, the "juices" themselves are actually likely to be VERY anit-microbial (therefore not disease-carrying). The same can't be said for their feet though. ;)
I never thought there would have been an up-side to fly vomit, but there it is. Thanks.
