Idolomantis Diabolica

Idolomantis Diabolica. Isn't that one of the coolest names ever? I like it so much I might name my next child that. I'll just have to have my wife buy into the whole latin thing. No one tell her what it means, though. That would kill the deal.

I can't find much out about this mantid except that people like it a lot. I wonder how often they assume this menacing pose. If they do it a lot, then I'm going to have to get my hands on one. Are there any entomologists out there that can give us some more info?

Thanks for the link, Anthony.

  1. I finally have a BLOG id...

Anhyhoo, back on topic. THAT is one of the most freakin' AWSOME insects I've ever seen. Mantids are right up there next to spiders and cephlapods in utter coolness in my books.

I have to learn more about this one. The name really is so perfect.

  9. They are indeed a beautiful mantis!

I've got a nymph at the moment, quite hard to look after. Needing 25-30oC and only eating flying insects!

If you want to buy one, and you're in the uk www.bugzuk.co.uk has some, that's where I got mine!

    Hope that helps.

  10. I've considered adding a mantis to my menagerie. My upstairs neighbors have forbade me to get a tarantula but they didn't say anything about a mantis... >:) heh heh
