Wet White

Bats (Linda) sent me a link to a Daily Mail article on this same infernal, waterborn tiger. It turns out that the diving-after-meat skill is one the cat developed on its own. The tiger's name is Odin. Fear him.

Diving Mantis

Here's a bonus for you. In a beautiful fusion of two of my more recent posts, Linda (you know her as 'bats') presents you with this.

Given what I have learned of mantids recently, I wouldn't put this kind of stunt past them.

Thanks for the photo, Linda. You've got some mad 'shop skills.

Check Your Skimmer

There seems to be a growing collection of freaky, underwater photos of white tigers on the web. Here is this week's installment. Just watch out for any white fur in your pool's skimmer. You never know where one of these might show up.

Proud Cat Owners

I normally make it a point not to post on deformed animals. However, the two kitties below are beloved pets, and it was their owners who shared the photos with me, so enjoy.

First, meet Sticky, owned by Pol. This feline with born with a hare lip. Above is him as an adult, with his tongue proudly highlighting his uniqueness. Below is him as a kitten. The close-up of his nose gives you some insight as to what a hairlip is.

And last we have Sebastian. Ricardo found him already blind in both eyes - he was apparently born that way. When Ricardo first laid eyes on him, Sebastien was trying to scavenge food from his trash bin. Ricardo took him to the vet, who determined that the right eye was permanently blind, while the left eye could regain some vision.

You'll be happy to know that after two surgeries and five months, Sebastian can now see out of his left eye, even if only in blurs and shadows.

I've got to hand it to you, Pol and Ricardo. Your cats won't win any beauty competitions, and you're just fine with that. I respect you for being such good, and proud, pet owners. The world needs more people like you.

Gratuitous Ugly

Here is a bonus post of simply gratuitous ugly, via Knuttz.net. Nothing terribly enlightening here.

None of these photos are fair. Take any critter, soak it in water and they aren't going to look too nice. Take this penguin, for instance. Normally cute, but this one's got his bedraggle on.

Same goes for this kitten. If you want to see even more soaked kitties, check out this link. There are quite a few good ones.

And last but not least, we have something abominable under a microscope. I'll admit that I, too, would look awful under a microscope, but I hope not this bad. But...only one way to find out...

Rest and Play

Some of you may remember my post on kohona cats. These are a very rare breed, native (in a sense, at least) to Hawaii. Well, Tiffany saw this post, an wanted to send along a photo of her kitty. You've gotta love pet owner pride.

This sequence shows him at rest and at play. Tiffany, does he ever open his eyes? And what is he doing in the second photo? Is he really flipping us all off? Bad cat!

Thanks for the photos, Tiffany.

Endearing

Ugly can be endearing, even elegant, as this cat proves. Though you won't find her on your cute animal sites, she is welcome here. Aja was born blind in her left eye, but she has been dutifully cared for by Paul. Paul, you make pet owners proud, especially when you capture and share a shot like this!

Kohona Love

Jack sent this feline family to me. They're kohona sphynx cats, and they remind us all of the Christmas spirit with their unconditional love for each other. They also remind me to add a nice winter coat to my Christmas list - they must be freezing. You try walking around with no clothes on, and completely shaved. Do it in private, though. We don't want to see that.

Abominations in Paradise

Below is the photo of a truly hairless cat. This kitten is a kohona sphynx, one of only a few cats that bear the hairless genetic trait that has only been found on Hawaii. See folks, even paradise can produce abominations.

Thanks for the link, Phlimm.

Sphynx Gone Wrong?

This photo has been floating around the internet for a while now, but it is high time I posted it here. I can't tell if this sad feline is a sphynx gone wrong (probably not), or a cat in serious need of a visit to the vets. A new shampoo may be in order.

Thanks for the photo, Jean.

Disillusionment and Fraud

Every once and a while I like to put this blog to good use - to serve the public interest. Today is such a day. DJ Dates saw a post I had done earlier on a nasty-faced white tiger and forwarded to me this photo and the story of a fraud.

Click the link above for the whole story, but let me give you a brief summary. White tigers are portrayed as rare, endangered beasts to be conserved and cherished. The reality is that they almost only occur in captivity and are the result of generations of inbreeding. Most white tiger cubs are so deformed that either they don't survive cubhood, or are too mangled to be displayed to the public. It is estimated that only 1 in 30 such cubs will ever grow to adulthood to be put on display.

The photo below is of one such individual - malformed from excessive inbreeding. Thanks, DJ Dates and www.bigcatrescue.org, for the info and the disillusionment.

This One Is for You

I understand there is disgruntlement among some of you regarding the presence of the Sphynx cat on this blog. This one is for you.

Look past the bat ears and the wrinkled, oily, hairless flesh and behold true evil in those dark eyes.

(end spooky Halloween music)

Haunt My Dreams

I have been remiss in my duties. It has been far too long since I have brought you yet another image of a sphynx cat. I don't have much to say about this photo. The eyes, the oily hairlessness, and the sweater say it all.

I'm going to go curl up in a corner now, suck my thumb, think of a happy place, and hope that this cat won't haunt my dreams.

New Home Needed

I am proud of this one. I took the photos. I know the cat.

My mom is quite proud of her abominable Persian cat, named Princess. But she secretly hopes that this kind of exposure may result in Princess finding a new home. Any takers? You can't be a python owner, because we know what your intentions are!

The cat has possessed a variety of names over the years, most of which are far less affectionate than 'Princess'. She is a sweet cat but is profoundly dumb (and ugly, but that goes without saying). She sheds her body weight in hair each week, so she occasionally has the clippers taken to her to keep the tangles away. Here she is freshly shorn.

Again, thankfully she is a sweet cat. I'm just glad I don't have to live with her.

Is It Worth It?

Yahoo! is reporting on a cat beauty show going on in Bucharest, Romania. You can see why this picture of a Sphynx kitten was chosen. Ugly. Ugly, ugly, ugly. This is a cat beauty show, people! But hey, you can't blame them. This little feline has the potential of bagging 1,000 euros for the lucky Romanian breeder. That is a fantastic sum when you consider that the average Romanian makes 150 euros a month. I'd breed all sorts of ugly cats for that.

A Classic

This photo has been around the internet for a while. It deserves another look.

Some things to look for on this cat: fox snout, shaved belly, awkward pose, rat tail. So much to see.

Carlo the Cat

Meet Carlo, who belongs to one of our readers, Felisa. Don't be sad, Felisa, not everyone owns a photogenic cat. I'm just proud of you for being willing to share his ugliness with the world. Also, take some solace in the fact that Caro isn't hairless.

Thanks, Felisa. I hope your cat's soul isn't as black as his countenance.

Three Sphynxes

We dug through the treasure trove at Fundumper to bring you some more Sphynx cats. These hairless wonders are a staple for us. Should we curse the breeders for producing such ugly cats, or should we praise them for providing us so much fodder?

Ugly Motherload

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Mafo for bringing to our attention a treasure trove of ugliness.
We have featured the Sphynx cat before - that hairless wonder, both loved and feared - but the photos found
here are true jewels in the crown of ugly.
Take a look at these four. I had no idea these animals were so wrinkly. We will be meting out more of these pictures sporadically, to share the wealth and to remind us all of the ugliness that persists in the world.

Meet Roland

This photo was brought to our attention by Rosiemobile. This cat's name is Roland.

See Roland. See Roland eat french fries. See Roland be abominably ugly.
This cat has so many things wrong with it. Where do we start? The hairless, wrinkly skin, the bat ears, the bony hips and shoulders, the rat tail, the oversized, green eyes, or the bleary-eyed, McDonald's-eating look on his face?
It's beyond me. I'm just glad we stumbled across him. Hopefully he is a nice cat, otherwise he is completely irredeemable.
